Dinner plan – Week of November 13, 2011

We decided to clown around on Friday night and made a late afternoon decision to hit the Ansar Shrine Circus and grab a pizza and salad. Yep, a night on the town!! … or at least an evening. :)

You might have noticed that this decision had us alter from our weekly plan. While the salmon was defrosted and items were in the house to prepare our planned meal, we made the decision to postpone our salmon until Sunday. This is OK.

The main purpose of having a meal plan is to think about your week ahead so you are never stuck at 5pm saying “What’s for dinner?” This is a common question we get, and this experience Friday was a perfect opportunity for me to provide some clarification. At any rate..here’s what’s up this week: Continue reading

Dinner plan – week of November 6, 2011

The weekly dinner plan is back. :)

While I have had a general idea of our plan for the week, or had scribbled it down on index cards or post it notes I have not in the looooongest time posted anything on the fit50.com.

There are a few reasons I’m really excited about posting these dinner plans again. One, it helps me seek out new recipes and keeps things “fresh” in the Graue household. It truly helps to have to deliver some ideas to you, and I’m going to do my best to not throw out lame dinner ideas. Second, and more importantly, it matters to me that people take seriously the notion that planning meals and consuming nutritious food will have a DRAMATIC impact on how you feel, your waistline, and ultimately your health. Because of this. I choose to lead by example. Here goes…. Continue reading

THIS Whey… (not that way or that weigh)

We are on a quest…we always will be.

I believe a critical part of our successful health journey is the willingness to learn, to stay informed and to have an open mind as it relates to consuming new foods.

One component of my daily calorie consumption I came to learn more about recently was whey protein and the different manufacturing practices that are currently utilized to bring products to market.

Just put in on the Calendar!

It’s fall.

That means football, postseason baseball, harvest, mums, sweatshirts and fleeces, soup for dinner and open windows….just to name a few.

It also means it’s not too hot and some mornings are just crisp and cool enough to enjoy; especially in your fleece (see above) with a nice warm up of coffee.

These crisp, cool mornings, and late evenings actually, are a perfect time to spend outdoors doing some jogging, walking or hiking the trails or cruising on the bike. It’s a complete blessing to get into much more enjoyable training weather for the fall endurance race season. Continue reading

Embracing INSANITY

Getting sweaty with Shaun T

My INSANITY journey began on July 1st after returning from the National Team Beachbody Coach Summit.  I was pumped up and ready to embrace my fitness head on!  I took my first INSANITY Fit Test and thought I was going to puke!  I knew this program was going to be mentally and physically challenging.

I committed to doing the workouts 6 days a week with a few minor setbacks.  I took pictures and recorded workouts along the way for the accountability factor.  I felt good – really good! This program pushed me harder than any other program I’ve done.  I was a hot mess after every workout. :)

I completed Fit Test after Fit Test and my numbers continued to improve.  I felt stronger than ever!  I guzzled water and looked forward to my P90X Results and Recovery Drink after every workout.  (If you haven’t yet tried this stuff … it’s amazing!  Worth the workout just to get the drink!)  I took my workouts on the road.  I wanted results. Explore the Space…

When Saturday Night Live fans hear “Explore the Space” they are likely first thinking of Bruce Dickinson encouraging Gene to “Explore the Space” in the classic Cowbell skit.

While that skit makes me chuckle, the space I am encouraging you to explore is the produce section at your local grocer or farmer’s market. So many times, we get stuck grabbing the same few items walking through the aisles.

Apples…..  Grapes….  Iceberg lettuce….  Bananas…. Tomatoes….  Oranges….

You know what I mean….it gets BORING. Continue reading

8 Healthy Habits Developed in 18 Months

A reflection of WHO I WAS 18 months ago, prior to starting my own business as an Independent Team Beachbody Coach, and WHO I AM NOW – a healthier, happier ME :) These are 8 healthy habits that have helped enrich my life.

1.       Finally embracing EXERCISE – I was never a person who liked to exercise or even break a sweat for that matter . . . lol!  However, I have embraced the importance of adding regular exercise to my routine and LOVE the way it makes me feel – energetic, strong & confident!  Beachbody’s workout programs make it so easy!  You just pop in a DVD and get your sweat on!  There’s no gettin’ pretty for the gym, no added travel time, no arrangements to be made for who will take care of the kids. Your Waist….YOUR RISK

When it comes to reducing your risk for diabetes, high blood pressure and other obesity-related chronic conditions, one of your key, measurable targets should be reducing the circumference of your waist.

Simply put, if most of your fat is around your waist rather than your hips, you’re at a higher risk for heart disease and type 2 diabetes.

Women with a waist circumference greater than 35 inches and men with a waist circumference greater than 40 inches have a substantially greater risk for these conditions as compared to those with a smaller waist circumference. Continue reading
